Dear all,
Find here a video of students presenting their inquiries in the form of models.
Dear parents,
Our second unit of inquiry on
structures has come to end. Thank you for participating and encouraging the
students during the entire unit.
We are now about to commence
with our third unit of inquiry on body systems which falls under the transdisciplinary
theme ‘Who we are’. The central idea of the unit
is “The effective interactions among body systems contribute to healthy
living”.
The students will inquire into
each body system through a variety of learning engagements like experiments, kinaesthetic
activities, virtual applications, using books, field trip (health museum),
visit to biology lab, interviews, etc. we will use different graphic organisers
and thinking strategies to organise their ideas and make their thinking
visible.
The first line of inquiry
is ‘Body systems and their functions’. The students will gain an
understanding about the different body systems, the organs and their functions
and thereby touch upon the key concept of function. We will look into:
digestive system, respiratory system, circulatory system, excretory system,
nervous system and musculo-skeletal system. The hierarchy of the human body
will also be focused on.
The concept of connection
will be emphasized in the second line of inquiry which is ‘How these systems
are interconnected’. The students will appreciate the importance of each of
the body systems. They will realize how these systems work together for the
smooth functioning of the body.
After understanding the
functioning and interconnectedness of the body systems, the students will
inquire into ‘Making informed choices to keep our bodies healthy’. The
concept of responsibility will be used to guide the students to take
action. They will gain knowledge about the physical, emotional, social
well-being and will incorporate these in their daily lives.
Throughout the unit, the
students will be encouraged to use self-management skills such as gross and
fine motor skills, time management, safety, healthy lifestyle, codes of behaviour
and informed choices. They will also focus on the AKA strand ‘ETHICS’ as a part of making healthy choices.
We look forward to your support
and cooperation during the unit. Please do let us know if you can contribute to
teaching and learning in the classroom.
If you notice any action taken
by your child, kindly let us know through an email or a note in the diary. You
may also contribute to the student blogs by posting comments.
